HISTORY
Bosque de Matasnos
Once upon a time… in an unnamed place in the Highlands of Ribera del Duero, during the Tertiary Era, one of the best wine-producing regions in the world was formed, perfect for the production of high-quality wines. Millions of years later, in 1960, the owners of a forested area known simply as El Bosque in Peñaranda de Duero decided to dedicate its deepest part to grain cultivation.
At the same time, the vineyard that we now call Viña Vieja was planted— and from the beginning it showed us, that this winery was capable of producing wines of highest quality.
Our Origin
Bosque de Matasnos
The origin of the name
To make space for grain, the former landowners removed millions of kilos of wood from the forest. The locals brought their mules and donkeys to help with the biggest firewood harvest of their lives. The excessive effort killed hundreds of donkeys but gave life and a name to Bosque de Matasnos (Forest of the Dead Donkeys). A mysterious, unique, hypnotic, and equally beautiful place. A different place, but without a soul. Or with hundreds of souls…?
